When to Replace a Website

Ask yourself this; if you had a salesperson that had been with you for 6 months and produced little to nothing, what would you do with him or her? The obvious answer is to fire the person, isn’t it? How long should you keep the person before cutting your losses? We all have different answers to this question but we all agree there’s a time to say goodbye. Now, let’s reverse the thought process a bit. If you could get the best salesperson in your industry (without violating contract, etc.), what would you be willing to pay that person and how far would you go to get him or her to join your company? Why would you be aggressive about bringing this salesperson into your organization?  Would it take work and expense to recruit that person? Would that work eventually pay off? I’m guessing the answer is yes.

Let’s carry the thought process above to your website. If your website can’t be found on the Internet without searching your name, generates little to no sales, sales leads, new clients or prospects, when do you say goodbye to the site? Why is this any different than the sales person scenario? There are things to consider, it takes time and effort to change, it’s scary to change, you may not be technical, your friend built your current site, you're worried that your IT guy will have a cow if you change and so on. We’ve heard every reason a business owner can think of to avoid changing the site. The truth is if your site isn’t a major revenue generating source, then get a site that is because websites are about making money!

If you generate direct sales on your site and you can’t be found high in the natural or organic rankings then you have a huge problem. If you need to generate sales leads and have to use pay per click advertising to drive people to your site, you have a problem.  We could talk about this all day. If you wonder about the damage that pay per click advertising can do to your business, read the Return on Investment page listed on the left side of this page.

Advertising is one of the keys to the success of any business. Smart advertising is even more important. If you can have your website ranking high on the Internet and then redirect what you spend on pay per click advertising, your profit will go up significantly. This is smart advertising. If you have had your site more than a few months and can’t be found high in the organic rankings it is time to change so that you can capitalize on smart advertising.  More Info
